9 Ways to Reduce what...?

Sorry, I am trying to be funny but I am quite unsuccessful at it so I am giving up. I am going to share with you that I think my website sucks and I lack visual creativity. Hence, I think my visitors will experience cognitive overload. I was going to do a lot of writing about theorists and whatnot and I still want to do that. However, the way in which I planned to present it is going to cause Type 4 overload. Although I will be presenting theories that are critical to the formation of the school, I think some of the information, though essential, is extraneous. I think that it is important for me to eliminate some of the information to make it easier to digest. I think I have to do some chunking of the information instead of putting everything on the same page. In terms of the theorists, I might have a drop down menu so people can choose what they want to read about. I have so much work to do on this web page that I am suffering from cognitive crash.

Dayniah,
You are being much too hard on yourself! I know what you mean, though, when a project seems far from what you want it to be. This is often when you've been working on it for a big chunk of time and have no energy to see the positive things you've done. What is needed is some time away from it and a fresh start to bring a fresh perspective. From what I saw last class you have had a big breakthrough in getting a consistent look and color scheme. It really is looking attractive. I think the drop-down idea is good as a way of segmenting the information about the theorists.

I agree with some of what you have to say about things sucks, but you are too difficult with yourself and with this one, but it is cool.

Hey Daynia,

I think your site has come a long way! Learning a new program can be really daunting, but I think if you can imagine the site in your head, then the production part is easy. What do you want to tell people? What colors do you like? What pictures best tell your story? Pick a few definite items and the rest will fall into place.

Since the midterm, I think you fine-tuned and simpified the information presented, which really helped your educational design. The picture, colors, and menus help to minimize cognitive load and better tell your story.

I think you did really good job with your website. The last one that I saw, you gave lot of changes and it was nice.
and yes, chunking is a good idea when there are too much things in one place. If there is a lengthy text, sometimes people might just ignore to read.
And I agree with you with 'cognitive crash'......
hahaha..
sometimes when I think about the ways to reduce cognitive load in my project it gives me cognitive loads.......:)

Dayniah,
I think you did well. Your website looks like a real school website, maybe much better than some schools' website. I can see your effort. And I love the pictures you put. Those make your website so humanistic and warm. I am not a computer person either. I spent lots of time but my website still looks poor. So I feel the same frustration as you. But I told myself that it is an important skill for educators. I gonna still working for it even after the class finished.
